The 'First' Composite?

Postby Paul_Averly » Sun May 16, 2010 1:51 pm

Why does this man look so different from the SF composite? Z's hair is always described as brown, this man's is dark black. Is this a composite of Z, or just some other guy that was at the lake before the stabbings? Opinions please.

"Paul," How many times are we going to keep going over the same question again and again, especially when the answer has already been provided a dozen times and can be easily located in the actual NCSO report? Some board members keep posting this question over and over again, and one has to wonder if it isn't just some sort of joke. In all seriousness, this question has been answered so many times on here and other boards that I have a hard time believing that "Paul" didn't know the answer before posting.

IMO, he was some guy who had misfortune to be on wrong place in wrong time, but, why didn't he come to police after this sketch was made?

Sorry for asking. I'm not a member of any other board and have never seen a posting for this on this board. I've read the NCSO report and it doesn't answer this question.

Three different members asked me this question in the span of three days, so it seems a little odd, to say the least. Part of the usual, ongoing harassment I face includes the continued bombardment with already-answered trivia questions sent to my PM box, email, and in chat, apparently designed to annoy or distract me. Having received the same question so many times in so short a time span, I am naturally skeptical and weary.

The answer IS in the NCSO report: As the NCSO report states, the three girls observed a man in the area-- there is no evidence that they saw the suspect responsible for the stabbing. In short, the most likely scenario is that we're talking about two different people, and that's why the sketches don't match one another. The fact that the NCSO did not behave as if the person in the sketch was anything other than a person of interest is also telling. The man may have been involved-- I cannot say-- but the evidence does not appear to indicate as much, and, if he was simply a POI and not involved, I can understand why he may have been hesitant to come forward. I cannot claim to know who he was or whether he was involved, but the actions of the NCSO, Narlow and others do not suggest this man was the Zodiac.

Pop a pair of glasses on this composite and give the the SFPD one a squarer/thicker jaw. Don't look very different anymore now. And hair color can be easily changed.

Just saying.

Good point Lucifer.

I don't think it's very wise to write this off as just "some other guy." The girls who reported him thought he was acting strange enough to go to the police and their encounter made it into the report.

The man seen lurking around the lake seems to have the same type of behavior as Z. He sits in his car smoking cigarettes (like Kathleen Johns) and watches people from inside his car (like BRS). Even the encounter with the girls by the lake seems very similar to the way Z approached Hartnell and Shepard, watching them from a far and slowly approaching them. The report even mentions the man had a round face (like the description from SF).

All I'm saying is that many of us have been looking for suspects with crew-cuts and dark horn rimmed glasses.

We know Z didn't have a crew cut at Lake Berryessa because Hartnell could see hair sticking out the eye holes of the hood. The glasses from the SF composite were most likely Paul Stine's.

What are we left with? Zodiac not really looking like the SF Composite and maybe looking more like this one.
It's also interesting to think that if Z killed Paul Stien on the block he meant to there would be no kids at the window, the two SF officers wouldn't have seen him walking the one block back and this would be the only composite of Z.
