Modesto connection?
http://www.zodiackiller.com/PSNA3.html
apparently Paul Stine's brother Joe, a mechanic in Modesto at the time, tried to challenge Zodiac to come out of the covers and...fight him without a gun, well anyway, nothing happened to Joe thankfully, but do you think Zodiac might have been looking for him after all, on the day he instead found Kathleen Johns (yes, again I know she only likely a victim). Any opinions, didn't find a thread about this so...
ps. notice how the writer tries to suggest suspicion on Joe; "remarkable lack of bitterness"

Re: Modesto connection?
Yes, and this letter to the editor regarding his Brother has been floated around as possibly being written by Zodiac. Just a bit of opinion, but the writer seems to be against the hippie, peace movement, maybe indication that he himself is or was military.
Re: Modesto connection?
I would be willing to bet that Z drove into that service station to check on Stine's Brother, maybe his Brother even pumped his gas, and had no clue that he was pumping his Brother's killers gas.
By the way, does anyone know how close the address of Stine's Brother's service station (as mentioned in the article), is to where Johns was abducted from? Could it have been one of the service stations that Johns' abductor passed while driving her?

Paul Stines brother, Joe Stine, died in Stanislaus county in1981, only 46 years old.
He died on the 12 year anniversery of the Aug 1st, 1969 Zodiac letter, were Zodiac for the first time named himself "Zodiac" .
I´d like to know how Joe Stine died that young?
Not saying he was killed, or that Zodiac was responsible, but concidering Joe´s direct/verbal agression twards Zodiac , encourging Zodiac to confronation,
and his young age at death, it would be interesting to know how he died.
You can see it is the right Joe Stine due to right location and same mothers neename as Paul Stine

Looking for him? Maybe. Looking to fight him? I doubt it because that does not seem consistent with what we know about Zodiac. The majority of the victims were female. I bet it pissed Z off, but I suppose he had other motives for his murders. You have an interesting find none the less.

Re: Modesto connection?
thanks for the article.
yeah, I meant Joe would be a little foolhardy to go unarmed against Zodiac, who shot his brother in the head without a reason. If Z went looking, it would've been to kill him (very much with a gun) or to scare him up somehow.

I was trying to say that I'm not surprised that Z didn't go after him. It's not Z's game. Z wants the element of surprise on his side.

Re: Modesto connection?
yup, who knows. I think Joe's "plan" was to try to get Z to Modesto, somehow recognize him and surprise him with something other than his fists, who tend to lose against a gun...
Re: Modesto connection?
Joe's letter was a desperate attempt. Believe me zodiac has no balls, he always kill by surprise taking minimal risk. Z having a fight against joe is like mayweather accepting fighting pacman.
