Another amateur sleuth has posted yet another video on YouTube in which he claims to have identified the Zodiac and solved the case. Kevin Robert Brooks names his "suspect" in this video and claims that he has sent his finding to law enforcement agencies. As is so often the case with these amateur sleuths, the video makes NO mention of ANY credible evidence to implicate this "suspect" in the Zodiac crimes. Instead, there is vague mention of "circumstantial evidence," writing, etc. Brooks doesn't believe that his "suspect" was responsible for the Bates murder in Riverside as this individual was reportedly incarcerated at the time. Brooks says that a documentary will be available soon and that the "San Francisco Department of Justice" is currently reviewing his findings. As always, we'll have to wait to get the rest of the story.

Michael, thanks for this. I think that I've finally reached my limit with this kind of stuff. No facts, no details, just finger-pointing at some poor guy. I reported this video as abusive on YouTube and wrote an update on the other site that there will be no links to this kind of material, ever. I hate to sound like some kind of fascist on this subject, but this kind of behavior can really hurt others (and their relatives and friends). It could have been dealt with in a much nicer way.

Ok, sorry. I'm off the soapbox. Maybe I just had too much Xmas candy. I hate it when I get this way . . .

The Mullet is the preferred hairstyle by many who have solved the Zodiac case.

The subject described in this video, a deceased, convicted cop killer, was first brought to light as a Z suspect sometime around 1971 by serial killer Edward W. Edwards, who, according to an Ohio newspaper article of the time, gave this subject's pertinent info to LE, stating he had known him while incarcerated at Deer Lodge Prison, Montana. At various times and in various places including personal letters, Edwards' own autobiography and the above mentioned article, Edwards has claimed his suspect talked about collecting slaves for afterlife and was actually known as Zodiac while at Deer Lodge. This would be very compelling (if you think someone would actually use the name in prison and in the Z crimes thereafter) if it were not for Edwards' penchant for compulsive lying and scamming, with the original claim being made shortly before the release of his book, Metamorphosis of a Criminal, in 1972. No other person from Deer Lodge, inmate or guard, has confirmed Edwards' claim that I am aware of.

I think that guy's video camera was on drugs. And I loved how he brought out his grandfathers badge and scrap book - compelling. Pointless, but compelling. The nicely framed picture of his suspect is quite telling as well, IMHO.

With all do respect you two are a couple of very smart men. However, to make fun of ones thick hair is childish... I simply put it in a pony tail as it needed cutting. The same was done on YouTube to Dr. David Van Nuys from some coward behind a keyboard. I must have been mistaken but thought you two were above allowing the childish "Voigt like behavior.” As for the bad shaky video it’s the content not quality you should be looking at. We had little time and did it with an IPAD as my wife was finishing her medical degree. I truly wish it was done more professional I really do. However, I am the man that told you the true meaning of the Halloween Card & the Exorcist letter. Do you really want this solved? Or do you want to talk about it for the next 40 years?

Mike K, it's a shame as I tried to contact you and share some info with you and you write me off as "another one".... Dr. David Van Nuys being the professional he is did return my calls and even complimented my work. Mike, I'm not another one I am the one! I'm no Voigt or Kaufman. I am the Grandson of 1st Grade Detective Robert Slavin & relative of Detective Pierce Brooks whom incidentally coined the term serial killer.

Law Enforcement will never solve this unless they come across DNA from Lake Berryessa or what other source may have some. We have everything from personal pictures to psychiatric records, medical records and taped interviews with people who knew the man or should I say were acquainted with him as he truly was a loner. Mike B., Zodiac was none of the above on your list! Zodiac was Donald Lee Bujok. That will soon come out!
I would much rather have you as friends than foe but I know how that goes as tried that with others on these web-sites and was turned on. Those Bujok hand-prints and small handwriting samples on several Z Sites were ours and they were given to a web-master for his eyes only and to another researcherfrom Voigt’s site for research purposes only; then I find them posted on their sites a few weeks later. That was a big mistake as the tally of the cost of copyrighted material is growing. That however is only a small portion of what we have….

In closing, Mike B. Mike K. say what you want about me. I don’t care as everything Voigt wrote will be shared in our book as will idiotic things others have said. It will make people take a better look at Voigt that's for sure. As for finger pointing: I have never done it before but If you take time to watch you will learn that our suspect had killed before and led a horribly lonely life had been abused tortured and was mentally ill in a time when treatments were not very effective. There were neurological and physical reasons Zodiac spoke and walked the way he did. There were reasons he targeted who he did. I have done and know what you have wanted to know. Take your best shot or be my friend and treat me as the intelligent man I am.

Well, if this guy was ever arrested(I assume he was?) it should be a simple matter of Fingerprint comparisons, along with the palm print you say you have.Of course DNA would help too.
That is 1 thing about this case that makes solving it still possible, even if it's a long shot.

He also tells a dishonest story. I wrote to him, asked him if he wanted to post on my (former) site, and he simply answered with the reply "call me" and a telephone number. So, that kind of thing speaks for itself. I was willing to provide him the opportunity to write up a summary for the Original Research section but he obviously wasn't interested. I kept the email exchange.

As to his hair, etc., I have no idea what he's talking about. So, bottom line for me, is that his fussy behavior and inability to recall encounters accurately pretty much close the book for me.

As a small aside, I wonder what Ressler would think about who first coined the term "serial killer" since he (Ressler) was the first to put it into print in a peer-reviewed article. Oh, well . . . facts are obviously not a major consideration here.
