Someone once mentioned his name on this forum or some other Zodiac board. It was definitely a Hispanic name; I want to say 'Morales', but for the life of me, I can't be sure.

Armstrong + Toschi
Case: 696314
Left image has date of 10/13/69, right image has date of 10/17/69
Above that is the artist's signature and possibly something else. Perhaps another date. I can't tell.
Is it known who made these sketches? I ask because I truly do not know.

Bored? With the 340 as yet unsolved?
Trying to find out for you definitively, I came across this site. I'm now depressed. (Still looking).

I have been looking for over and hour now, and cannot find it either; the only thing I can find is that this comic book artist did a "fake" composite for a "pulp" crime book that included the Z - Great Crimes of San Francisco.

Title: 1880-1973 Great Crimes of San Francisco: True Tales of Intrigue By the Bay Publisher: Comstock Editions
Author: Dean W. Dickensheet, Editor Publication Date: 1981
Binding/Format: Mass Market Paperback Edition: Second Printing
Condition: Good ISBN: 0891740333
Inventory #: 0034341

This guy:

...did the cover art, which I cannot even find...

It is listed here:

http://www.nealadams.com/books.html

You can see his signature at the bottom of this page:

(They don't look the same to me...)

Maybe he would have done a better job if he were the stetch artist: :D

P.S. Police reports indicate 2 forensic artists, I believe, one out of SFPD who did the 2 sketches after the paul Stine murder, the other one out of Napa...??

I think Mike Rodelli had tracked the artist down, apparently he is currently living in Mexico from what I remember (although I don't recall if he ever actually mentioned the artist's name).

It was either Mike or someone else who mentioned the guy's name, yes. But Mike has stated that he has not succeeded in locating the artist despite trying hard.

Yes, that's correct, LA, he had not actually located him. I should have been more specific, Rodelli had tracked him down to Mexico, but that was as far as he got (if he's in Mexico City, good luck finding him! LOL). An interesting aside is that Sandy called SFPD ca. 1990, and some guy picked up the phone and claimed to be the artist! While I don't disbelieve her story, I really doubt the guy she spoke with was the artist. What are the odds that, after 20+ years, he hadn't yet quit, retired or transferred and just happened to pick up the phone when Sandy called? Since no one knew the artist's name at the time, it could have been anyone who picked up the phone and made that claim just for fun. It might have even been a janitor who answered the phone that day for all we know...

You cannot possibly be serious. I'd be more apt to say Sandy was lying, than that the SFPD allowed janitors and random people to answer their incoming line. I see no reason to believe anything she has ever said.

IMO, Sandy Betts is just as crazy (if not more so) than Catseye and Nanette from DK's board. Sandy is just older, and has more experience at the routine. Deb Perez sort of fits in-between, I suppose.

Did you ever see The Secret to My Success? Michael J. Fox was Brantley Foster, the mail delivery guy, and just happened to be in an empty office when the phone rang, he answered it, and before long, became Carlton Whitfield, an executive. That was my idea, maybe a janitor just happened to be alone in the office cleaning up when the phone rang, he answered it just for giggles and said he was the guy who did the composite.

One thing is for certain, however: if this incident did in fact happen, I do not for one second believe the guy who answered the phone just happened to be the artist who did the composite.

I think you're right, LA. Looks like "Morales" to me, but I still couldn't find any references on the net.
