Thks for the info SK...
It's hard to judge exact distances and locations when you've never actually been to the area. When you say civilian workers, do you mean primarily locals employed as labourers, electricians etc- or mostly people brought into the area from outside with specific skills possibly not found in Vallejo at the time?

Mare Island was a major employer of civilians who lived in the Vallejo area. All types of trades were employed at Mare Island. In the late 60's and early 70's they ran 3 shifts. I remember friend's parents who worked the night shift or graveyard shift on Mare Island.
I have no direct knowledge, but based on my experience since college, along with the local labor and tradesmen they had to have "experts" and "technicians" in various capacities come in on a regular basis to deal with different shipboard machinery. Remember they were dealing with nuclear equipment besides the typical non-nuclear equipment.

Scared Kid <---No, I do not recall the subs being launced.(Bummer, I now wished I did)
On my street there were two neighbors who worked at Mare Island. Also in the late 60's...some of the older kids 19/20 year olds were getting jobs there. I do recall going swimming there. It was with the neighbors Mom and Children. If I recall correctly it was an officers swimming pool. I actually went to Mare Island just to drive around last month, it's sad to see all the empty buildings as there was so much history.

Thought I'd share the reward fund info that was started for Betty Lou & David. A lot of people in Vallejo cared about them back then and still do.
This find was in a friends Mothers dresser drawer.

Yes thanks Zamantha.
This could actually be what Zodiac was referring to when he asked about the price on his head.
If this was in the local Vallejo paper it may say something about his reading habits and geography.
Is Vallejoans the correct term?
I would think Vallejans like San Franciscans, but I'm probably wrong.

The clippings make this ever so more tragic.

Thanks, yes I thought these clippings were a great find. And yes Z's ... it makes Zodiac's question on the price on his head, make more sense.
It does make this case more tragic showing how it affected so many. I have another friend who wrote a wonderful poem...memory to Betty Lou
who was in her art class at the time at Hogan. I feel the Zodiac read very paper and article on himself, that he could get his hands on.
Zincerely, Zam*
PS, Yes Vallejoans is the correct term.

This Reward Fund was started with hopes of finding the villain.
So many years later and still no real answers.

Re: In memory of Betty Lou Jensen and David Arthur Faraday
It's been 43 years since David Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen were murdered on a dark stretch of Lake Herman Road on the night of December 20, 1968. Decades of investigation have failed to identify the man who ended their young and promising lives. Like all of the Zodiac victims, David and Betty Lou deserve justice. I can only hope that I will live to see the day when the murderer is identified and held accountable for his crimes.
I know that everyone who cares about this case has taken a moment to think about David and Betty Lou today. Their families are still grieving the loss of their loved ones and they are still hoping for justice. My heart goes out to them, and I hope that everyone will take a moment to remember just how lucky we all are to be alive and enjoying a future which was taken from David and Betty Lou all those years ago.
