"Note the Savings on Thousands of Things"...or....why...
....didn't LE ever try to figure out if Z was a regular shopper at an old-skool dugstore or 5 and dime for his paper and pens, envelopes, greeting cards and other supplies...
I will bet you Z had OCD and had a "little list" that he shopped for every week of sundries and snacks and ciggies things like writing tablets...and I will bet you that he only went to one or two different stores to shop for these goodies...and I will bet you that he did this for years...like until he died, or is still doing it now but has changed locations...
...stores like this:

...thoughts??
I have a few more: Again, this could be something they researched extensively and witheld from the public...Does anyone know if store managers or clerks from drugstores or 5 and dimes such as Woolworth's in Benicia, Vallejo, San Fran, etc. were ever interviewed? I think that while Z may have been able to "behave" and appear somewhat ordinary for shorter periods of time like while out shopping, I will also bet you that he did some type of quirky thing that would make a store clerk or shopkeeper remember him...
Is it possible to put out some kind of notice to see if any of these folks who are still living would like to pass on any info. they might have?...Anyone know if LE ever went this route??

I know there are some old posts on here about Woolworth's.
IIRC, it had to do with either(or both?) the 'bond paper' and felt tip pens.
I'm strtching my memory but I do believe things were narrowed down and for some reason Woolworths sticks out.
I like your idea there Zabs, and if LE didn't research these places, they sure should have. IMHO, they did, even though I can't prove it right now.
